Four of the items are addressed to pastoral poet John Cunningham (1771-1772, n.d.) and discuss his works. The two 1771 letters are bound together, along with a printed etching of Mrs. Montague and a later (handwritten) description of her literary accomplishments.

John Cunningham was a British actor and writer. Born in Dublin, his play Love in a Mist brought him a measure of success, and he travelled through England with a troupe of actors. An indifferent but enthusiastic performer, he settled in Newcastle and published several volumes of popular pastoral poetry.
